Accessibility

There are a number of accessibility features active on the Stop Child Poverty website. Whilst these features are primarily for the sight impaired, they also aid in the ability to be viewed by a larger web audience on a variety of different systems.

Font Sizes

Font sizes are set so they follow the size set in your browser. The font size can be adjusted either in your browser or using the toolbar under the main navigation area.

Access Keys

Keyboard Navigation Access Keys are also provided to aid fast navigation of the site.

The keys are as follows:

How you use the hot keys depends on what sort of computer you are using to view this website. If it is a Mac, you hold down the control key and push the number to go to the corresponding page. On a PC, hold down the alt key and press the number, then press enter.

Please note that access keys only work on recent browsers such as IE 5.x or 6 and Mozilla/Netscape 6, Opera and Safari.

Browsers

We have designed the site to work on modern browsers. We deem these browsers to be Internet Explorer 6 and above, the Mozilla browsers, Opera 8 and above, Safari 2 and above, and Netscape 8 and above. At this stage there is no support for older browers, although the side should degrade gracefully in these browsers.

Printing

We have produced a custom stylesheet which browsers will refer to when preparing to print your document. We have removed all the text formatting, images and navigation in this stylesheet so when you print you get the content and nothing more. Our research shows us that people find printed navigation and images superfluous. We've also boosted the contrast.

Plugins you will need

Macromedia Flash Player: Whilst we don't use Flash throughout the site, some of our banners for you to add to your site are Flash based. To see these banners you will need at least Flash Player 5. You should be given the option to download Flash if it's not installed. If this isn't the case then you can download it from here.

Adobe PDF Reader: Some of the files on this site require Adobe's PDF reader. You can download this from Adobe's website.

Documents: Some of the files on this website require a program such as Microsoft Word or Open Office to view. We have encoded these files in the universal rtf (rich text format) method. If you don't have a program that can view and edit these files we suggest you download the Open Office software.
